First of all why do you want to get up early?? If you don't have something you think is significant to do, then you probably will not wake up! You probably already wake-up and rush through your morning routine that could include getting kids ready, getting yourself ready, making breakfast, etc. But if you want to wake up early so that you can fit in some time for yourself for exercise, meditation, yoga, or for personal development then this article is for you. Waking up to work on things that contribute to your life and your goals will help you get up!
Don't try to get yourself out of bed at 5:00am if you usually wake up at 7 to start your day. What helps is to start slowly, so for a couple days just wake up 15-30 minutes earlier than your usual time. This gradual shift will be easier physically and mentally. As long as you ignore your first reaction and just GET out of the bed you'll be fine, also you should do wake up early even when you don't need to, yes, that means weekends!
Make sure you have an alarm clock to ring or other method you use to wake up early. Make sure that when you wake up to get out of bed and be productive with your time, you should be surprised by all that you have accomplished by your regular wake up time.
After about a month of waking up at your desired time, check yourself to make sure that you are getting enough sleep to maintain your health.
1. Do you usually need an alarm clock to wake up in the morning?
2. Do you often feel drowsy in warm rooms or during “boring” meetings, classes or presentations?
3. Do you often need a nap to get through the day?
4. Do you fall asleep almost as soon as your head hits the pillow at night?
5. Do you often fall asleep watching television?
6. Do you fall asleep after large meals or after drinking alcohol?
7. Do you sleep extra on weekends?
8. Do you have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning
If you answered yes to a few of these questions, you are possibly sleep deprived. If you answered yes to atleast 4 of these questions, you are probably sleep deprived. Try adding 15 minutes to your sleep until you are answering no to less than 4!
